International Amateur Wine Competition

NOTICE: THE WINE COMPETITION IS THE 2ND SATURDAY IN SEPTEMBER AS PART OF TRIFEST. festivalTHIS YEAR'S EVENTS WILL BE HELD ON SEPTEMBER 7TH & 8TH, 2018.

ENTRIES DUE BY MIDNIGHT, AUGUST 30, 2018, NO EXCEPTIONS.

Our annual competition is held to promote and reward amateur wine making. It is also an opportunity to learn from and share tips with other vintners. The wines will be tasted and evaluated by a professional slate of judges prior to the weekends celebration. Each wine will receive feedback sheets. (Judges listed below)

The schedule of events is as follows:

Friday Evening Pot luck dinner in the arbor of Cowie Winery for all competition participants and spouses from 6pm ‘til- Participants are encouraged to bring a dish to pass as well as a bottle of their entries to share with others. Only home-made wines are allowed this evening. This is the only alcohol allowed on the premises by direction of the management. Don’t forget your folding chair!

Saturday Celebration Begins with the blessing of the Wines Followed by the Award Ceremony (MEDALS are awarded for GOLD, SILVER & BRONZE, a certificate is awarded for Honorable Mention. Best of Class, Double Gold, Best of Show receives an engraved Silver Tray)

NEW THIS YEAR- (EVERY WINE will receive feedback sheets from our judges!) The Grape Stomp is next with Kristy leading for the 38th year! All are encouraged to stomp grapes and do your best I Love Lucy Imitation! Bring your cameras to record your memories & fun! Everyone purchasing a wrist band will receive a Cowie Vineyard Wine Glass to enjoy tasting of the award-winning wines. Cheese & crackers are provided to cleanse the palate and enhance your enjoyment of the wines! Wrist bands are $15.00 at the door. (Competitors Entry Fee provides 1 wrist band and wine glass)

Competition Rules

  1. Only wine made by non professional wine makers are allowed.
  2. Each entry consists of one (1) 750ML bottle (375ml for Port).
  3. Labels list: Name of Winemaker, Division, Class, and Year.
    Example: Jane Smith Division 1: Class 01 - Red Dry, Merlot--2010
  4. All entries must arrive at Cowie Wine Cellars by midnight August 30, 2018.  NO EXCEPTIONS.
  5. Entry fees: $15.00 first entry; $6.00 per each additional entry. (Entry fee includes ONE free wrist band & wine glass)
  6. Entry form, Complete exhibitor info, & Fees must be submitted with your wine!
  7. Prizes awarded:
    Best of Show: Engraved Tray
    Best in Class: Double Gold
    First: Gold Medal
    Second:
    Silver Medal
    Third:
    Bronze Medal
    Honorable Mention: Certificate
  8. Points are awarded on the modified UC Davis 20 pt. system.
  9. General Admission to the event is a $15.00 wristband and you receive a Cowie Vineyard Wine Glass to carry home!
